SHERMAN, Texas (KTEN) — A developmental baseball team is coming to the City of Sherman, and it needs a name.

The future Mid America League team cut the ribbon at its future home at Veteran's Field Tuesday, and announced the six finalists in the competition to create an identity for the squad.

Fans will vote for their favorite name; here are the selections:

The Generals

...because Sherman was named after Gen. Sidney Sherman.

The Squatches

...as in sasquatches, named after Bigfoot.

The Outlaws

...because in 1861, Sherman's streets were filled with outlaws after Texas seceded from the United States.

The Tanks

...the Sherman tank was the most commonly used tank in world War I.

The Shadowcats

...the nickname for the Texas black panther.

The Shellcrushers

...named after a gigantic prehistoric shark.

"This field and this team is for the City of Sherman, and so being able to allow them to feel like they're a part of it is the reason why we want them to be able to participate in the naming," explained team owner Tim Woodland.

The voting is open online until December 10, and the new name will be revealed the next day.

The winner of the name contest will receive two free season tickets for life.
