POTTSBORO, Texas (KTEN) — On Sunday, a memorial service was held for veteran John Hagler, who died last month at age 98.

He served in World War II, Korea, and Vietnam. Friends, family and veterans gathered at the VFW post in Pottsboro to recount stories and memories. Among those close to Hagler, he's remembered for his dedication to America.

Family friend Alisa Powell said she's amazed by his service.

"Patriot that he was, just all of the branches that he served with, and the war that he served in... that's your ultimate patriot," Powell said.

"He served the country really well; I understand he was way up high in the grades, so he was a good man," added Don Childers.

To Debbie Dickens, Hagler made America a priority.

"He served with pride, and his only concern was that he keeps America free, and keep America the great place that it is to live in," she said.

Hagler died on October 30, less than three weeks after celebrating his 98th birthday.
