(KTEN) — State Sen. Drew Springer (R-District 30) has announced he is not running for re-election next year.

Springer has spent 12 years in the Texas Legislature — eight in the in the house and four in the senate.

He will finish out the last 14 months of his term and then, in January 2025, he plans on taking over his father's business.

"It was the point of my life — and I believe that our founders had it right — that you go, you serve for a period of time, and then you come back home and you work and raise your family in the laws you pass," Springer said.

He added that he's proud of his service to constituents, especially rural North Texans, highlighted by pro-life and Second Amendment legislation.
