Ophelia takes aim at Mid-Atlantic

Tropical Storm Ophelia's forecast track

(KTEN) – Tropical Storm Ophelia has formed east of the Carolinas after forming a closed center of circulation. Previously Potential Tropical Cyclone 16, Ophelia is now forecast to make landfall on the Outer Banks as a strong tropical storm.

Tropical Storm Warnings and Storm Surge Warnings have been hoisted from the Outer Banks to the DelMarVa Peninsula.

Up to 3 to 5 feet of storm surge is possible on the Outer Banks as Ophelia tracks toward land. 1 to 3 feet of storm surge is possible into the Chesapeake Bay.

Heavy rainfall could cause inland flooding as well with a widespread 2 to 4 inches possible. Up to 5 inches of rain could fall in localized areas.
