DURANT, Okla. (KTEN) -- Over 50 years ago this once vacant staircase led to Hotel Durant on Main Street and now with a lot of its history still intact it will serve as a new festive venue.

"Gypsy Ranch we started it last year out at our haunted trail but we've moved it to main street for the haunted hotel," said owner of Boggy Bottom Gypsies Candle Company Katrina Renfro-Wingfield.

The idea started when the owners of boggy bottom gypsies candle company discovered they had access to the abandoned Hotel Durant.

"Whenever my husband actually went up there before me and I was too scared to even go past the stairway because i didn't know it was fully intact, " said Renfro-Wingfield.

The hotel opened up in 1925 on main street, and closed in 1969.

"Even though we're opening it up as a haunted hotel we're still preserving the history that is one thing that we're really big on," said Renfro-Wingfield.

For the first time since 1969 the hotel will open it's doors to new visitors with a more mischievous purpose.

"If you love Halloween and you think you can't be scared then come give us a try because that's the kind of people we want, we want the ones that don't do haunted houses because ours will blow the socks off of just anyone," said Renfro-Wingfield.

the haunted hotel will open the last weekend of September and will be open Friday's and Saturday's in October with a 15 dollar entry fee.

A portion of the money made with the haunted hotel is set to go towards new trees and new flower baskets for Main Street in Durant.
