(KTEN) – As of the National Hurricane Center’s (NHC) 4 AM update, major Hurricane Lee remains a potent Category 4 storm with sustained winds of 155 MPH. After peaking at 165 MPH earlier on September 8 (Category 5 strength), Lee is now the strongest storm so far in the Atlantic hurricane season.

Lee is forecast to remain a major hurricane through at least September 13, remaining at category 4 strength or greater.

Plenty of uncertainty remains regarding the track of Hurricane Lee. The jury is still out on whether the storm will make landfall on the East Coast or remain just enough offshore to create steep waves and rip current issues. Model data is only reliable up to seven days, in which Lee will only be near the Turks and Caicos.
