Wilson teens die in Saturday morning crash
LOVE COUNTY, Okla. (KTEN) — A Wilson High School student and a recent graduate died early Saturday in a crash on State Highway 76 in Love County.
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol said the single-vehicle accident happened about six miles south of Wilson near Water Moccasin Road.
OHP said a Honda sedan driven by a 17-year-old female was northbound when it left the two-lane rural highway, hit a fence and a utility pole.
The female driver and a passenger in the vehicle, identified as 19-year-old Michael Whatley of Wilson, were pronounced dead at the scene.
In a Facebook post, Wilson Public Schools Superintendent Chris Grimm identified the student as Makayla Cantrell.
"We have grief counselors available for the remainder of Saturday at our Ag Classroom," he wrote. "We will be here as long as necessary."
Grimm added that the counselors will also be on campus when classes resume on Monday.
Troopers said the cause of the fatal accident is under investigation.
