New commissioner takes the oath in Fannin County
BONHAM, Texas (KTEN) — A new Fannin County Commissioner was appointed on Monday morning.
Dale McQueen is taking over for Precinct One Commissioner Edwina Lane, who resigned her seat to take on a new position as the county's purchasing agent.
Fannin County Judge Newt Cunningham selected McQueen from among 10 candidates.
McQueen said he's lived in Fannin County for 35 years, and plans to listen to taxpayers and repair roads in Precinct One.
"Mostly our issue is just getting the roads repaired to such a point that we can just do maintenance on them," he said. "Right now, some of them are beyond maintenance... you're looking at basically restarting them and redoing them."
McQueen also hopes to keep the county financially stable.
He said he will finish out the remainder of Lane's term, which runs through the end of 2024.
