The Ada Cougars have more state titles than any other school in the Sooner state but its been 27 years since their last time coming out on top. However, their lofty goals have not changed.
"We expect to win every game," said Ada head coach Brad O'Steen. "That's the expectation and the desire. Our mindset is to come in every day and win the day."
Last year was the first full off season the Cougars had with head coach Brad O'Steen and continuity paid off with a playoff appearance, losing to Wagoner the eventual 4A state champions in the first round.
"It definitely didn't end how we wanted," said senior linebacker George Maddox. "But for all those guys really it was our first playoff game.... We were a good team last year but we just have to take that next step to be a great team."
Part of what made Ada a good team last year was a ton of weapons at the skill positions but a lot of those guys graduated. That calls for a much more experience Cougar defense to be the strength of the team.
"Everybody says you know if you can play really good defense and run the football you've got a chance to win a lot of games," said O'Steen. "Defense wins championships and that's what we're trying to do."
"Last year our whole team was young," said senior Cord Coffee. "Everybody was young, our o-line was pretty much all sophomore's... we're a lot more mature a lot more experienced and we're really going to be able to have a good year this year."
Ada will open the season with two rivals playing at Durant on August 25 and then hosting Ardmore for 'Battle of the Cats' on September.
