Experience could help Collinsville make state title run
COLLINSVILLE, Texas (KTEN) - The Collinsville Pirates want to take everyone's treasure in 2023.
"It's one of the best groups we've ever had," said Collinsville head coach Garrett Patterson. "It's going to be a really fun group and its nice to get back to work."
"Our expectations last year were to just get as far as we can but this year it changed to we want to win that state championship, get passed the fourth round," said senior Rylan Newman.
Coach Garrett Patterson's team surprised some people a year ago with an undefeated season in district play, Making it all the way to the regional finals before losing to Albany, the eventual 2A(II) state champions. With six starters on offense and nine on defense returning, the Pirates are ready to turn tough losses into motivation.
"I think early on we were people that focused on others," said Jenkins. "We focused on others, we focused on what other people were doing. I think we changed the mindset, I think we have the mindset that we're going to win."
Whether its on the diamond as a pitcher or as QB1 on the football field, the arm of Logan Jenkins is very valuable at Collinsville. He's undoubtedly got the trust of his guys around him.
"For him its relatively easy, he grasps the offense he knows his reads," said Patterson. "It's just nice to have a really good athlete and a really good kid back there."
Collinsville will start their quest for a perfect season on August 24 when they host rival Tioga for 'Battle of the Bridge.'
