Sentence handed down in Denison child sex abuse case
SHERMAN, Texas (KTEN) — Twenty-five-year-old Tevin Cargal of Sherman has been sentenced for aggravated sexual assault of a child.
Denison police investigated the allegations of abuse made by two young girls. Their parents said Cargal would drive to their neighborhood and pick up the girls late at night.
One of the victims told investigators that she had been sexually assaulted by Cargal; the other said the defendant had been "sexually inappropriate" with her.
Cargal denied assaulting the girls, but admitted to sending inappropriate photos.
"This was a case with predatory behavior," said Assistant District Attorney Vanessa Vice. "I think if the victims' parents hadn't brought it to Denison police, this assault would have continued to occur."
Judge Jim Fallon sentenced Cargal to 25 years in state prison. He will be eligible for parole after serving half of that term.
