Durant's Xadavien Sims commits to Oregon
DURANT, Oklahoma (KTEN) - Oregon it is for Durant High 4-star defensive end Xadavien Sims. He's regarded by most as the number one player in state of Oklahoma for the class of 2024.
"As soon as I stepped on campus it felt right to me," said Sims. "I got to talking to coach Lanning at the end and I told him I wanted to be a Duck. "As soon as we got done taking pictures, I knew that's where I wanted to be, I knew that's where I wanted to play."
It was a close decision at the end. Fans of the sooners might want to close their ears but UO was nearly OU.
"We were like this close to canceling the trip to Oregon, and staying here to go to OU spring game," said Sims. "I feel like I was already locked in with OU, so it's great for me, great for my family."
In previous years, southern Oklahoma has been an under-recruited place.
Sims and multiple other recent power five recruits are putting it on the map for good.
"Most schools down north and big schools, don't really get a glimpse of all the talent in Oklahoma," said Sims. "It's really big, you see all these people that are on this wall from Oklahoma and Texoma going to these big schools. It's a great opportunity and its huge for this area."
Sims added that he plans to cancel all other official visits, and he's ready to help Durant win ball games in his senior season.
