Howe police detail fund-raising scam
HOWE, Texas (KTEN) — Howe police have arrested a Denison man who was allegedly running a fake veterans charity scam.
Investigators said 53-year-old Michael Lee Raymer went into a Howe business on April 13 asking for a donation to help military veterans suffering from post-troumatic stress syndrome. He promised to provide car cleaning services, but failed to deliver.
Additional victims of the scheme were later identified in Sherman, Denison and Gainesville.
Raymer was booked into the Grayson County Jail on a charge of deceptive business practice. If convicted, the maximum penalty is a $4,000 fine and up to one year in jail.
