ADA, Oklahoma (KTEN) -  The Ada Girls Golf team made history; the Lady Cougars won the 2023 class 4A State Championship. The event wrapped up in Weatherford last week and they edged out Bishop McGuiness by two strokes.

The school held a celebration for the team on Monday as they won their first state championship in program history.

Ada standout Peyton "Beans" Factor and Head Coach Ron Anderson talked about how special it is to finally win a state title.

"I feel like we pushed each other over the top during state," Factor said. "We had that adrenaline and it made us succeed even more than we did the rest of the season."

For Anderson, this is a culmination of nearly two decades of hard work. His dream of winning a state title finally came to fruition, and his team looks incredibly strong for next season as well.

"Last year, we were state runner up and everybody returned and we were able to pull it off this year," Anderson said. "We've got another group coming back next year. We only lost one senior."
