GUNTER, Texas (KTEN) -- Gunter ISD held a groundbreaking for their new elementary school this morning.

The school will cover grades pre-k through 5th, and will have room for more than 800 students.

This with additional classrooms being added to the high school, is all a goal to make more room in the schools for growth.

"Slightly contemporary, slightly traditional feel to it, here just to make sure it fits into this beautiful neighborhood we're building it in," said Gunter ISD Superintendent, Scott Martindale. "It's going to be spacious enough to accommodate everyone, we even have two playgrounds planned."

The superintendent said they were grateful the bond went through last May.

"In May of '22 less than 50% of bonds in the state of Texas failed," said Martindale. "But, our community came out and voted more than 70% in favor of our bond, so we're just excited to be giving our community what they want."

Martindale says they expect the school to be open in fall.
