BONHAM, Texas (KTEN) — The Texas Mission of Mercy is bringing free dental care to Bonham for those who may not have access to a regular dentist's office.

"We're able to provide this care for them that allows them to get some treatment done, get them out of pain, get some cosmetic work done," explained Dr. Jerry Hopson. "Even though it may be minimal, it gives them better self-esteem, even if it's just getting a front tooth fixed."

TMOM is a mobile dental clinic with pop-up events around the state. This weekend's event is the first one they've held north of Dallas, something Dr. Hopson said they've wanted to do for years.

Both pre-screened and walk-in patients can get cleanings, extractions, fillings, and other pain-relieving procedures.

"The work was just superb; they didn't hurt!" patient Mary-k Wilson said. "So nice, I can't tell you how nice they were. In fact, everyone out there was just wonderful."

Dr. Hopson led the charge for the Bonham clinic, which brought in over 50 dentists and 300 volunteers taking time from their day jobs to help out — like attorneys Jordan Holland and Jessica McDonald.

"Sometimes we're fighting each other on cases, so today it's great — and not just today, we've been planning this for months," McDonald said. "Regardless of which side we're on in the courtroom, we're on the same side for our community."

The clinic continues on Saturday, with treatments beginning at 7 a.m. Volunteers recommend patients arrive earlier to keep everything running smoothly. The clinic is located at the Bonham Multi-Purpose Complex on FM 87.
