JOHNSTON COUNTY, Okla. (KTEN) — A Coalgate woman died Tuesday morning after her van crashed into the back of an 18-wheeler south of Wapanucka.
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol said the big rig had stopped on State Highway 48 to make a left-hand turn when a southbound vehicle driven by 51-year-old Shanelle Watts hit it from behind at around 6:30 a.m.
Watts was trapped in the wreckage for about an hour. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
The truck driver was treated for a head injury and later released from a Durant hospital.
OHP said the cause of the fatal crash is under investigation.
