SHERMAN, Texas (KTEN) — Police say a Sherman man arrested in Missouri this week was trying to run away from accusations of aggravated sexual assault of a child.

Sherman police had been investigating 52-year-old Stephen Richard Sheppard. With the help of U.S Marshals, he was tracked down in Springfield, Missouri, and arrested on Wednesday.

Sheppard also faces charges of indecency with a child and failing to comply with sex offender registration requirements.

As of Friday, Sheppard was being held without bond at the jail in Greene County, Missouri, awaiting extradition to Grayson County.
