Man shot dead by Denison police after homicide
DENISON, Texas (KTEN) — Denison police used deadly force early Monday to subdue a man with a weapon who may be linked to a homicide.
A police spokesperson said officers were called to a disturbance at a residence in the 200 block of East Walker Street at around 4 a.m. They found a woman who was dead.
"Officers discovered a female inside of the residence, deceased. An individual had left the residence," said police Chief Mike Gudgel. "Officers were alerted to his leaving; located him in the 900 block of Lamar."
Gudgel said responding officers attempted to communicate with the suspect and initially used non-lethal tactics to subdue him.
"Upon engagement with that individual, he had a weapon," the chief said. "Officers attempted to de-escalate; unfortunately, officers had to use lethal force."

The names of the deceased individuals have not been released. The Texas Rangers are now in charge of the police shooting investigation and are providing assistance in the homicide probe.
"Both the officers that are involved in this officer-involved shooting are on paid administrative leave for the current time until they're medically checked out down the road," Gudgel said, adding: "No officers were injured in this incident."
