Former S&S teacher convicted on child sex charge
(KTEN) — A former baseball coach and teacher at S&S High School has been found guilty of the sexual assault of a child.
David Moody Toon, 44, was arrested in 2020 on a Hunt County warrant alleging continuous sex abuse of a child under age 14.
On Thursday, a Hunt County jury found Toon guilty of those charges.
The Hunt County Sheriffs Office had previously obtained a probable cause affidavit, and investigators from Greenville police had reason to believe that Toon had engaged in criminal sexual acts with a child under 14.
Toon, a resident of Van Alstyne, was a baseball coach and teacher at S&S High School before his arrest.
S&S Consolidated Independent School District Superintendent Roger Reed said the school district was unaware of the accusations against Toon when he was hired, but he was fired after being notified on October 16, 2020.
Toon will serve 10 years behind bars and will have to spend at least half of his sentence in custody before he will be eligible for parole.
