KINGSTON, Okla. (KTEN) — A Kingston High School student was jailed after allegedly assaulting a school teacher on Monday.

According to records, 18-year-old Alec McQueary had been sent to the principal's office for throwing things to the ground and cursing the teacher after being asked to remove his hat.

The student then ran out of the office and threw his phone at the teacher's face..

The unnamed teacher dropped to the ground and was taken to a hospital.

Kingston Public Schools Superintendent Brian Brister said it was a situation that should never have happened, but happened quickly.

Brister said the teacher was given time off, but decided to return to school the next day for his students.

McQueary entered a not guilty plea on the misdemeanor charge of assault and battery on a school employee. He was released Tuesday on his own recognizance.  A disposition docket is set for Friday morning.
