Ardmore mom accused of leaving child in dumpster charged

ARDMORE, Okla. (KTEN) — Police say an Ardmore woman accused of leaving her child in a dumpster last month is facing multiple charges.

Kieara Lopez, 22, was located February 4 by police in Bethany, an Oklahoma City suburb.

Lopez is accused of leaving her child in a dumpster in the 2100 block of Harris Street NW on January 28.

Ardmore police and other local law enforcement agencies recovered the child from the dumpster and said the child was in stable condition. 

Lopez was sent for a mental health evaluation after the incident. 

The district attorney's office reviewed the investigation and issued a warrant for her arrest on charges of child abuse and abandonment of a child under 10. 

The Oklahoma County Detention Center said Lopez was in the Oklahoma County Jail for four days before being transferred back to Carter County. 

She has since been released on $10,000 bond.
