Habitat for Humanity raises money for next project
SHERMAN, Texas (KTEN) — Habitat for Humanity's biggest fundraiser is back for another year.
Families who have received new homes from the organization were invited to attend a special event at the Sherman Municipal Ballroom Saturday evening to help raise money to help more families in need.
"It is our annual signature fundraiser event, and it allows us to raise funds for construction materials for the next house we are going to build," said executive director Laurie Mealy.
The next Habitat for Humanity home will be built for the Burgos family in Sherman. The mother, along with other previous families, spoke to share the impact that Habitat for Humanity has had on their lives.
The "Habitators" event also held a silent auction, with proceedings going to construction costs.
Habitat board member Sandra Miller says that it's important for the people who attended to see the contributions they are making to these families.
"A lot of people actually meet the families that they maybe would not meet them other times and see who it is that their contributions help," she said.
