DURANT, Okla. (KTEN) — Durant Mayor Oden Grube announced Friday she is stepping down from her post due to health concerns.

Grube was elected to the City Council in 2017 and became mayor in 2019.

Vice Mayor Danny Sherrer will serve as acting mayor until April 17, when voters will choose the city's new leader.

"Very sad to see Mayor Grube go. We appreciated her efforts for the city and all of her hard work," said city spokesperson Rebecca Carroll. "She is leaving due to health reasons. She has realized she needs to take a little bit better care of herself, and she is going to focus on her businesses and family."

Grube was Durant's first female mayor.
