Siberia freezes over with temperatures into the -80s
(KTEN) – With seasonable conditions in Texoma, we tend to forget how lucky we are in terms of winter weather.
Take Tongulakh, Russia for example. On the morning of January 18, the town plummeted to a temperature of -62.7°C, or -80.9°F! Wind chill values dipped below -100°F!
Temperatures were so low that tires burst on vehicles!
The -80.9°F reading is the new lowest temperature recorded on Earth for the year 2023. It is also the lowest temperature recorded in Russia in January since 1982.
In the long-term forecast, cold air could travel from Siberia to the United States. We will keep you updated on the latest as February creeps closer.
