WHITESBORO, Texas (KTEN) — People who call Whitesboro home will soon see improvements to sidewalks and parking along Main Street in the downtown district.

The Texas Department of Transportation said construction on the road also known as State Highway 56 is set to begin on January 9.

Retailers will tell you that sidewalks are terrible, and about once a week someone falls.

"Once it's completed, it's going to be the best thing ever," said Tracy Kinsey, owner of Flowers by Faith. "We will have access to all the shops. We can carry on as normal professional people, because right now, it's totally unprofessional. People fall. We've to go pick them up."

TxDOT said the Whitesboro Main Street project is expected to be complete by May of next year.
