Former Tishomingo teacher sentenced for inappropriate relationship
(KTEN) — Former Tishomingo teacher Shelley Duncan, convicted on multiple counts of lewd acts with a child under 16 in Indian Country, has been sentenced to 36 months in federal prison.
The sentence was handed down Monday by Judge Jodi W. Dishman in the Eastern District Court of Oklahoma.
Duncan, 54, will be subject to three years of supervision after completing her prison term.
Duncan had initially been convicted on state charges in 2018 for having an inappropriate relationship with a 14-year-old boy in 2016.
She was already serving a prison term when that conviction was overturned last year. It was determined that the state charges were invalid because the crime was committed on tribal land involving tribal members. Duncan is a Native American.
Prosecutors then indicted Duncan on federal charges, including three counts of lewd acts with a child and one count of abusive sexual contact.
She was convicted this week on two of the four federal counts, lewd acts with a child under 16 in Indian Country.
