(KTEN) — Proposed legislation would block gender transition procedures for Oklahoma minors.

House Bill 1011 would prohibit health care workers from providing gender transitions surgeries or services to Oklahomans under the age of 21.

State Sen. David Bullard (R-District 6) said he expects several bills on this issue to be filed for the upcoming session, including proposing his own version.

"I will be looking at banning it from the age of 26 down, just from my understanding as a teacher of cognitive development and how long it takes," Bullard said. "We will make sure kids are protected, is the main thing."

The Oklahoma Legislature will convene for its next session on February 6.
