SHERMAN, Texas (KTEN) — It's time again for the annual Bob Skaggs Memorial Food Drive in front of the Sherman Walmart.

It's the 26th year of the event whose namesake was known as the "Blue Bunny ice cream man."

Skaggs enjoyed being a part of the food drive to help make sure families in Texoma had enough food for the holiday season.

The three-day campaign provides food for the food pantry at the Salvation Army of Grayson County. Over the years, the Bob Skaggs Food Drive has become the Salvation Army's largest food drive in all of Texas.

The food that's donated is enough to sustain the food pantry for an entire year.

"I work at a food pantry, soup kitchen, and so the need is there," said Wendy Vellotti, Skaggs' daughter. "The numbers are going up, and the growth that we get in town, the numbers are just going to increase, and this is just a way to help our friends in need."

People are encouraged to donate canned goods and toiletries. The Bob Skaggs Food Drive hours are:

  • Monday: until 8 p.m.
  • Tuesday: 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.
  • Wednesday: 6 a.m. to noon

The Walmart is at the northwest corner of U.S. 75 and U.S. 82 in Sherman. Can't be there? You can also donate online.
