HUGO, Okla. (KTEN)  — Two Choctaw County Jail inmates who escaped through the roof of that facility are now in police custody hundreds of miles from Hugo.

Sheriff Terry Park said Tyler Charles Payne, 30, was nabbed Tuesday night in Lauderdale County, Mississippi.

Thomas Wesley Cofer, 40, was also arrested in Mississippi; he led law enforcement on a pursuit in a stolen vehicle near the city of Madison.

Payne — with a home address in Anna, Texas — had been in custody in Oklahoma on multiple charges, including assault and battery, resisting arrest and carjacking. Cofer, from Atoka, had been jailed on burglary charges.

Sheriff Park said the pair "escaped over the past 48 hours through the roof on the northeast dorm side" of the Choctaw County Jail. "Now to correct the issues at our facility," he added in a Facebook post.
