(KTEN) — In 1925, the third full week of October was designated National Pharmacy Week. It recognizes the important role that pharmacists and pharmacy technicians play throughout the health care system, like ensuring patients are receiving the proper medication.

"We're able to see all the medications that are coming in from the different doctors, and be able to really evaluate and make sure they're safe together, and the doses are appropriate based on the other medicines that they take," said pharmacist Travis Garrett.

Garrett has worked as a pharmacist for 12 years after his interest was piqued when he helped out at a pharmacy during high school.

To celebrate the occasion, The Medicine Shoppe in Sherman is offering discounts on screenings for diabetes, heart disease, and general brain health.
