Grayson County Jail expansion plan clears regulatory hurdle
SHERMAN, Texas (KTEN) — The Texas Commission on Jail Standards has approved the initial plan to expand the Grayson County Jail in downtown Sherman.
The Grayson County Sheriff's Office met with the Commission as the first step to make sure the proposal complies with state standards.
"What they do is they take a look at the construction plans and make sure that everything we are doing is improving our facility to comply with the rules, or to make sure we are making improvements to our facility that enhance our ability to provide those services to our inmates," said sheriff's department spokesperson Capt. Sarah Bigham.
She added that the sheriff's office has to meet with the Commission two more times, and while that's expected to happen by the end of the year, the timetable depends on construction process and the TCJS.
