DENISON, Texas (KTEN)—Local Vietnam veterans gathered at American Legion Post 62 for a ceremony formally welcoming them home from the war.

Commander Coleen Anderson says many Vietnam vets were not warmly received when they first returned from Vietnam.

"They were the last group of soldiers that were drafted that responded to the draft," Anderson said. "They had to drop everything that was happening in their lives, they had to turn on a pin. A lot of them made huge sacrifices, and they've lived with the results of that war a lot of times without support."

Veterans received a lapel pen and certificate recognizing their service. Post 62 has over 100 Vietnam veteran members from the Denison area.
