DENISON, Texas (KTEN) — Denison water customers will soon be paying more when they turn on the tap.

A few months ago, the city hired an outside firm to design a new water and wastewater rate along with a comprehensive plan.

City spokesperson Emily Agans said  the price hike will help Denison prepare for future growth.

"People will see their rates increase just a little bit," she said. "For residential, I believe for this year specifically, I believe it might be about $8. That's about 11 percent from what they were paying. Really, commercial users will see the bigger increase. Our goal here was to have people pay for the amount of water that they are using."

Agans added that Denison's new water rates will take effect at the end of this year.
