OSD student selected as spokesperson for Deaf Awareness Week
SULPHUR, Okla. (KTEN) -- Deaf Awareness Week begins September 18.
Ashlei Miller, a senior at the Oklahoma School for the Deaf in Sulphur, was chosen by the Oklahoma Department of Rehabilitation Services to serve as the state's official spokesperson for the week.
Ashlei was nominated by the staff at OSD because of all that she does in and out of the classroom; setting an example for other students.
"It feels so special, to be honest," Miller said. "I wasn't really expecting to be chosen for this, and so the fact that they did pick me, it meant a lot."
Ashlei said she wants to spread awareness about her school and all the tools, opportunities and organizations it provides for deaf people.
