VAN ALSTYNE, Texas (KTEN) -- They built this city on rock and roll! Jefferson Starship put on a free concert in the social district in downtown Van Alstyne.

The band has released 8 gold or platinum selling studio albums in their career.

"We have been planning on this for months," said Tim Barnes, Van Alstyne chief of police. "We just want everyone to enjoy a group that has been around for a long time," he said.

The social district of Van Alstyne wasted no time after cutting their ribbon back in April of 2022 to put on events like these.

"I have had phone calls for the past month debating us if this is a free concert, and yes it is all free," said event coordinator, Kandi Hessle. "We do this for our community, a place where people can come and have a night out," she said.

Jefferson Starship is scheduled to be their second to last concert for their throwback tribute series.

Rick Trevino is up next on October 1st.
