ARDMORE, Okla. (KTEN) — Operation Christmas Child has started preparing for the holiday season. The organization sends shoe boxes filled with donated goods to children around the world.

The organization was started through Samaritan's Purse and collects goods like hygiene items, toys and other necessities year-round.

As a part of Saturday's preparation meeting, volunteers were briefed on the duties that will be required for the drop-off dates that occur between November 14 and 21.

Bobby Nelms, a volunteer and regional leader in Ardmore, has been working with Operation Christmas Child for years, and has a personal connection with donating the goods in shoe boxes.

"It goes to Chile; it goes to Ecuador; it goes to Ukraine or wherever it's going to," he said. "That's personal as far as where your box went to and what it impacted."

Preparations for the Operation Christmas Child November drop-off dates will continue in time for the holiday season.
