Austin college gets new scoreboard days before home opener
SHERMAN, Texas (KTEN) — Austin College will unveil a brand new scoreboard to go with its recently-installed turf field.
The school has had a plan for its new facilities for five years, but as of Wednesday morning they were still waiting for a key piece of the stadium puzzle.
Due to supply chain issues, a delay caused the scoreboard to arrive just days before kickoff of their home opener.
"It was not the contractor's fault at all; it was just different things — the price of gas, getting materials and different things like that — but we pulled it off, and they went above and beyond to make sure we got it done," said David Turk, who's in charge of facilities at Austin College.
"I've been on the phone 24/7... I mean, we are biting our nails," added Athletic Director David Norman. "You hear things that we are all hearing — delivery problems, COVID outbreaks — that shuts down delivery service, so it's those type of things. But, hey, we have it here and we are just taking it a day at a time."
With everything in place, the race is on to get the Roo's broadcast team trained and ready to roll come game day.
"Seven a.m. on Friday we will have training lead by Jeff Kelly, our sports information director, everyone who has anything to do with pulling off our game technologically," Norman said.
The Roos are hoping to see lots of points on that new scoreboard when they host Rhodes College Saturday afternoon at one o'clock.
