(KTEN) – Man… it sure was a hot summer across Texoma. With Meteorological Fall finally here, let’s recap the season that was the Summer of 2022.

From that point forward, a firestorm of triple digit heat dominated Texoma for the rest of the summer. July racked up 23 days of triple digit temperatures and August received 12 days.

The Summer of 2022 achieved 39 days of triple digit temperatures, the eighth most in a single year in recorded history with records stemming back to 1897.

Thanks to this dry streak, a flash drought emerged across Texoma in the matter of eight weeks. Extreme to exceptional drought conditions blanketed the region. As of September 1, drought conditions have lessened thanks to recent rainfall; a sign of a new season upon us.

The Summer of 2022 ended up being the fourth warmest summer on record for Texoma with an average high temperature from June 1 to August 31 of 96.0°F.
