BONHAM, Texas (KTEN) — The City of Bonham and Fannin County are discussing the site of the old county jail at the corner of Sam Rayburn Drive and Chestnut Street.

The city is exploring options about how to best use spaces around downtown as part of the city's master revitalization plan.

"We have identified and realize there are potential parking issues in the future as it relates to the rehabilitation of downtown," said City Manager Sean Pate.

Negotiations are still at the early stages between the two parties. Fannin County Judge Randy Moore said the deal may not involve exchanging the property for money. One option the county is exploring would include offsetting some county fees.

"We are building a justice center, and there is going to be a lot of costs associated with fees, associated from the city from building that structure," Moore said.

Pate said the city would examine several options for how best to use the lot, including additional parking, city office spaces, and a possible expansion of the fire station.
