DAVIS, Okla. (KTEN) — Davis High School has announced a new scholarship for seniors that was created to honor former principal Jack Kapella.

Kapella, who passed away in early August after a two-year battle with ALS, was principal and football coach at Davis High during his career as an educator.

Jack Kapella was principal at Davis High School.

Since his passing, school officials thought the best way to honor Kapella's legacy was to award a scholarship in his hame to a Davis senior.

Although the criteria are still being evaluated, Principal Trey Owens said it will be built around strong grades, character, and community involvement.

"His influence is seen every day in our town and in our school," Owens said. "Having the scholarship is going to be tremendous. It's going to be very meaningful to whoever the recipient might be."

As the 2022 school year kicks into gear and seniors prepare for their futures, the Jack Kapella Scholarship will help lift up one student who represents Davis Public Schools and the city.
