SHERMAN, Texas (KTEN) — Sherman police are searching for a forgery suspect.

The case started with a report of stolen checks last May. Since then, some of those checks have been passed in Sherman and around the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

On Thursday, police posted photos of a man who they called a suspect on the department's Facebook page.

"During the investigation, the detective was able to obtain surveillance video of the suspect using one of the checks... that's what we posted today," said police spokesperson Sgt. Brett Mullen. "It appears to be a white male;  he's covering his face, but he has a lot of distinctive tattoos. We think someone in the area, anyone who knows him, would recognize those."

Anyone with information about the suspect is asked to call Detective Riffe at 903-892-7341.

Sherman police released this photo of a forgery suspect on August 18, 2022.
