PONTOTOC Co., Okla., (KTEN)--

Pontotoc deputies responded to a home on county road 3557  Friday morning, where they discovered a 4-year-old girl had been living with her deceased mother for one-and-a-half to two days.

A Pontotoc county deputy was dispatched to the house, where he met a neighbor, who said he noticed the girl sitting on the front steps.

According to the deputy's report, the neighbor initially searched the home for the mother, Alexandra Paul, but did not enter the closed bedroom where she was.

Once the deputy arrived and walked inside, he found Paul dead on her bed.

The deputy's report suggests drugs may have resulted in the 30-year-old's death.

He located a Chickasaw identification card and contacted Lighthorse Police for assistance.

While waiting for the medical examiner to arrive, Lighthorse Police officers contacted Indian Child Welfare to start working on services for the girl.

The four-year-old was later released to live with her uncle, who previously had custody of her for two years while Alexandra was In drug court in Denton county, Texas.

The medical examiner took Paul's body to Oklahoma City to determine the cause of death.
