MADILL, Oklahoma (KTEN) - Madill's football program is on the rise. The Wildcats doubled their win total from 2020 winning six games last season, which showed improvement in the program under second year head coach Chad Speer.

It's something to be happy about but this year they want to take it a step further and its the playoffs that are in sight.

"I think we'll have a really good chance," said senior wide receiver Stephen Sisco. "I think we'll go to the second round."

"I think that has kind of been our focus, our goal," said Speer. "The kids have talked a lot about that. We were close last year, lost three really close football games that we had a chance in the end. We know we're close, we've got a lot of experience back which I think really helps."

The difficulty will also be turned up a notch with Madill making the jump up to 4A, where they will compete in district 4 with teams like Poteau, Broken Bow and Ada.

"It will be some tough competition," said Speer. "I think our kids will be up for the challenge and excited for the opportunity."

Madill opens the season with arch-rival Kingston on August 26.
