TOM BEAN, Texas (KTEN) - A winless season certainly was not the goal for the Tom Bean Tomcats in 2021. It would be hard to believe any team being satisfied with that.

They will try to change that this season with a new culture from a new head coach in Steve Fex. He comes over from McKinney Boyd, where he was a co-defensive coordinator.

"They all want to do well, they're hungry for success," said Fex. "You brought up, the past, we don't talk about it. They're hungry for success. They want to be better tomorrow."

So far, Fex has gotten rave reviews from his new players and he is taking it one step at a time with all his focus on setting a standard in practice.

"We're gonna need every single one of these Tomcats this year," said Fex. "So, we've got to match all these skill sets like I said before. A big part of this week is teach them how to practice, teach them how to focus, the mental part of football."

Tom Bean opens its season on August 26 at home against Cumby.
