VAN ALSTYNE, Texas (KTEN) — Businesses and residents in Van Alstyne were advised Wednesday to boil tap water before drinking or cooking due to a loss of pipeline pressure.

City officials said the situation was prompted by a computer malfunction.

"To ensure destruction of all harmful bacteria and other microbes, water for drinking, cooking, and ice-making should be boiled and cooled prior to use for drinking water or human consumption purposes," the city said in a statement. "The water should be brought to a vigorous rolling boil and then boiled for two minutes."

A notice will be posted by the city's water utility when boiling water is no longer necessary.
