WHITESBORO, Texas (KTEN) - The Whitesboro Bearcats are coming off their best season in school history, making it all the way to the regional finals in 2021.

However, the team feels they are just scratching the surface with head coach Cody Fagan entering his fourth season at the helm of the program.

"Oh its great, we've all got it down," said senior quarterback Mac Harper. "We're way ahead of where we were last year, it'll be fun."

"We're like his little kids coming up, said senior linebacker Sterling Gartin. "We were the freshman on the block when he was the new AD. And its just pretty great. I feel like he kinda fills a pretty big role coaching us because we're older now and were about to graduate and were the first people he knew here."

While Whitesboro lost a few key pieces, most of their core returns. That experience is something that has Fagan excited for what's to come.

"There's several guys on this team, 10 or 11, that will start their 30th football game by the time we get into the second half of district play," said Fagan. "All these seniors started as sophomores three years ago when we were telling everyone that we were going to be pretty good down the road. Well, now those times are here and we just have to make sure we capitalize."

The Bearcats open the season on August 26 at Krum.
