Van Alstyne plans for growth in public safety services
VAN ALSTYNE, Texas (KTEN) — Van Alstyne officials are working on plans for a new public safety facility for the city's police and fire departments.
"The facility that we are in is so old we can't accommodate all the people we need to put into Van Alstyne," said City Manager Lane Jones.
The city has asked for input from 14 different architects.
"We now are looking for an architectural firm that could give us an idea of what that building would look like and what we think it would cost to be able to build it," Jones said.
As the population of Van Alstyne continues to grow, Jones believes it is important for city buildings to keep up.
"We are just at that stage in our evolution that we need to build a facility that will allow us to move forward in the next 10 or 15 years," he said. "We have hired two outside companies to come in and do studies to help us with what size and how that should look."
Construction is expected to begin at the end of 2023 and will take two years to complete.
