ARLINGTON, Texas (KTEN) - Texas Tech football says hello to new head coach Joey McGuire.

The Raiders are undergoing a staff makeover with new offensive coordinator from Western Kentucky Zach Kittley and defensive coordinator from Oregon Tim DeRuyter.

The team went 5-7 overall last year defeating Mississippi State 34-7 in the in the Liberty Bowl.

This will be McGuire's first head coaching job at the college level as he looks to turn the program around.

He has a heavy background in Texas high school football and spoke on local standout for the Gunter Tigers Hudson Graham Thursday.

"He's doing a great job. I think he's 185 right now which is an increase. Hut is going to be on the defensive side of the ball. We recruited him as an athlete, and he's going to be in the secondary. There's going to be a couple freshman that play and you never know throughout the season."

"But I'm going to tell you what I've told them from the get go, they better be serious because it's going to be hard to get some of these vets that are really truly bought in off the field. But I'm excited because one thing about Hut he loves football, and you got to love football to be in our building. He loves it, and he's really working his tail off."
