WHITEWRIGHT, Texas (KTEN) — An armed man was taken into custody Sunday evening at the Abbington Commons apartments in Whitewright.

What was initially reported as a possible barricaded subject was met with a large law enforcement presence, the Grayson County Sheriff's Office said.

The subject, identified as 34-year-old Dustin Tyson, refused to come out of his apartment when Whitewright police arrived. They requested backup from Grayson County deputies.

"After a few minutes, they were able to convince him to come out peacefully," said sheriff's office spokesperson Capt. Sarah Bigham. "They did have information he was armed with a firearm. There was an incident that happened prior to deputies getting there. We do not have details on that, because Whitewright is investigating that part of it. After he came out, he was arrested by Whitewright Police Department."

The incident was over by 7:30 p.m.

Tyson was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and was detained on a $100,000 bond.
